Even Basic Metallurgy Knowledge Says This Is Hard to Believe in Devon, England
A dark wooden sign explains the origin of the idiom 'cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey,' describing how cannonballs stored on a brass tray would spill when the metal contracted in cold weather. Below the sign, four rusty cannonballs rest on a green rope tray, mimicking the described 'monkey' tray. The image is set on a dark wooden deck next to a red-painted ship part and a metal ring with rope.
