The Extinct Macquarie Banded Rail: A Glimpse at a Lost Species
Two preserved, taxidermied banded rails (Moho pererū) lie on a white surface, each with a handwritten museum label attached by string. The birds are brown and mottled, one positioned horizontally with its head to the left, the other slightly angled. The overlaid text at the bottom identifies them as specimens from Macquarie Island, collected in 1881, and credits photographer Alan Tennyson and the Natural History Museum.
