The Epic Showdown: Windmills vs. Water

In 1738, the 19 windmills of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands started spinning, transforming a six-foot-deep salt swamp into arable land. Each windmill is equipped with an Archimedes' screw, pumping water over a dike ring into tidal rivers, preventing flooding of the polder.
