The Mystery Behind Unusual Names
In eastern British Columbia, the Bugaboo mountain range's granite spires tower over glaciers, earning it a reputation as North America's Alps equivalent. The range's unusual name stems from a 19th-century gold rush gone wrong, when prospectors labeled the area a "bugaboo," meaning a dead end. Later, mountaineers conquered the peaks, with Snowpatch Spire, shown here, being the last to be summited, in 1940. #BugaboosMountains #CanadianLandscapes #NorthAmericanNationalParks é Whit Richardson / Cavan Images Telegram: https://t.me/s/MomentsFeed X (Twitter): https://x.com/MomentsFeed
